What Is Neurodiagnostic Testing?
Neurodiagnostic tests are diagnostic procedures designed to evaluate the patient's neuromuscular system that is the function of the body's muscles and nerves.
The tests are non-invasive, performed on an outpatient basis and do not require any special preparation on the part of the patient.
Electromyography (EMG) tests the function of muscles, while Nerve Conduction Studies evaluate the function of nerves. Thin needles and electrodes are placed attached to various areas of the patient's body. When activated, some slight discomfort or tingling may be felt.
The tests generally require approximately one hour, after which the patient is free to resume completely normal functioning, without side effects.
